Inside Western Union: Boycott by Immigrant Organizations
In countries such as the Philippines, remittances from overseas workers generate more cash inflow than foreign aid provided by the World Bank and IMF. The average low-wage immigrant worker in the US sends $250-$300/month, nearly 50% of their savings. How is this money sent, where does it go, and what is the role of remittances in addressing structural poverty in immigrant communities or in the Global South? We are joined by JESSICA RUCELL of TIGRA and LETICIA ALANIS of La Unión to discuss the politics of remittances and the Western Union Boycott.

Muslim Mapping: LAPDs failed plan to track Muslim Communities
Earlier this month the Los Angeles Police Department revealed a plan to identify Muslim enclaves in the area. While the LAPD claimed the plan to be a way to reach out to Muslim communities, civil rights groups immediately labeled it racial profiling. After much opposition from the Muslim community in LA, the LAPD chose to shelve the plan. However, is this the last we have heard of this type of profiling? AFFAD SHAIKH from the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the Greater Los Angeles joins us from LA.
