Justice for Jennifer Laude

Audio not available
In the Philippines, in October 2014, a transgender woman named Jennifer Laude was found brutally murdered at a rest and recreation center for the American military. Attorney Virgie Lacsa Suarez discusses the Visiting Forces agreement with the United States and the jurisdictional and power imbalance contained within, violence on the trans community, and how Jennifer’s life and death has galvanized a movement in the Philippines seeking justice not just for Jennifer but for all cis and trans women subject to militarized male violence.

This is an excerpt from AF3IRM NYC’s Lessons from the Jennifer Laude Murder: Gender, Human Rights, and Politics of Subjugation – with an introduction by Yani Alnica, conversation with Attorney Virgie Lacsa Suarez and Ninotchka Rosca, and moderation by Chevy Evangelista.
