Back in the 1960s, the word Asian American was brand new, and not even Asian Americans knew what it really meant. But in the heart of Chinatown a radical art movement sprang up to explore identity, the politics of diaspora, and the aesthetics of America’s racial dynamics for people of Asian descent. Recently the Asia Art Archive in America celebrated this often forgotten legacy with a talk featuring artist Bing Lee and Asian American studies scholar Margot Machida, and curator Ryan Wong.
