Calling for U.S. Out of Asia-Pacific!

This month of April 2014, U.S. President Barack Obama has been scheduled to visit Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines to engage in talks about trade deals that would be critical in further solidifying the U.S.’s strategic pivot to Asia and the Pacific. This so-called “pivot” has been on the move for several years now, as the U.S. has been working to increase military presence and continue its role as the hegemon in the region. The pivot to Asia is also seen in conjunction with the U.S.’s increased attention towards economic interests in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2010, the Obama administration has been pushing to talk with Asia-Pacific nations about establishing a major free trade agreement called the Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP.

On April 25th, a rally against the pivot to Asia-Pacific and the TPP Agreement was held in Time Square, sponsored by organizations including, BAYAN-USA, CAAAV Organizing Asian Communities, Nodutdol for Korean Community Development, and TaiwanNot4Sale.
