"Tales of the Waria" - NY Premiere at the Asian American Film Festival

August 11, 2011
When: Thursday, August 11, 6:30pm
Where: Clearview Chelsea, 260 West 23rd Street (between 7th & 8th Ave)

"Tales of the Waria" follows a community of transgender women as they search for romance and intimacy in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country. At times comical and at times heartbreaking, the film uncovers a world that not only defies our expectations of gender and Islam, but also reveals our endless capacity as human beings to search for love -- whatever the consequences.

The film was funded by the Independent Television Service (ITVS), Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), and Pacific Pioneer Fund. It was also a selected project of 2010 Tribeca All Access.
